The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant David Arthur Arrivee (NSN: 0-176940), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a night attack pilot attached to and serving with Composite Squadron THREE (VC-3), Carrier Air Group ONE, embarked in U.S.S. BOXER (CV-21), in Korea. On 21 June 1951, Lieutenant Arrivee was leading an armed reconnaissance mission many miles behind the enemy lines in the vicinity of Yangdok and Sagiri. He skillfully led his section in destroying, by strafing and bombing attacks, three heavily loaded enemy trucks proceeding towards the front lines. While attacking a fourth truck, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed in flames. Lieutenant Arrivee was killed instantly. His perseverance in these attacks, despite anti-aircraft fire, and his heroism, inspiring leadership, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
