The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Commander Dale W. Cox, Jr., United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of an A-3D Skywarrior. Commander Cox established the U.S. transcontinental (East to West) aerial speed record of five hours 12 minutes, 39.24 seconds, and the round trip record of nine hours, 31 minutes, 34.4 seconds, on 21 March 1957.
