Francis Vaught enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1942 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1944 after completing the Reserve Officers’ Course, Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, Virginia. While in service, he graduated from George Washington University in 1953. He retired as a United States Marine Corps Major General.
