The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Henry E. Huber, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy behind the Elbe River line in Germany, in 1945. Sergeant Huber left his sheltered position and went through intense tank fire to an outpost where he established radio communications so that artillery fire could be directed on the enemy tanks. As a result of his great heroism, artillery fire was brought on the tanks, knocking out one and so disabling the other that it was forced to withdraw. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Huber, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
