The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Thomas J. Brennan (ASN: 31188762), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 February 1945, in Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Brennan, after crossing the Roer River with his medical vehicle loaded with medical supplies, unloaded the vehicle and began carrying the wounded to be evacuated. During the remainder of the day, Technician Fifth Grade Brennan evacuated thirty wounded men, driving over roads and through fields that had not been cleared of mines and subjected to enemy artillery, mortar, and small arms fire as well as strafing by enemy aircraft. His heroic actions resulted in the saving of many lives. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Brennan, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
