The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Reginald W. Maybee (ASN: 0-2000463), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 January 1945, in Belgium. During an attack Second Lieutenant Maybee, under cover of fire from four comrades, crept toward a house in which the enemy had set up a strongpoint. As he approached the building two enemy grenades landed dangerously close to him but he courageously continued forward and threw two grenades into a window, wounding one of the enemy and killing another. Moving to another portion of the building he observed a sniper and instantly killed him with a rifle grenade. The remaining occupants of the house then surrendered. Second Lieutenant Maybee’s gallantry and courage greatly assisted in taking forty prisoners and numerous weapons. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Maybee, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
