The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William H. Lee, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division, in action against the enemy on 5 March 1945, near Salm, Germany. Observing several casualties lying exposed to enemy fire, Private First Class Lee immediately left the comparative safety of his foxhole and began to administer first aid to the wounded. Under bursting rocket shells and direct small arms fire, pone Lee made his way from one casualty to the next, rendering what aid he could. The extreme courage and devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Lee reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
