(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Cadet Second Class William C. Culbertson, United States Air Force, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States, while a Cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, in action near Denver, Colorado, in May 1971. When a young child fell into a river and was in danger of drowning, Cadet Second Class Culbertson dived into the rain-swollen Platte River and pulled the floundering youth to safety. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Cadet Second Class Culbertson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
