While on summer leave, Cadet Second Class Dunshee was at the public recreation area of the DeSota National Wildlife Refuge at Missouri Valley, Iowa, when a young boy rushed up to him and asked for aid in attempting to rescue a drowning man. Cadet Second Class Dunshee swam to the spot where the man had disappeared and dove into nine feet of water. On his third attempt he found the victim and brought him to shore. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Cadet Second Class Dunshee reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
