    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ordnanceman Second Class Merlyn Duane Muntz, United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving in Patrol Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED ELEVEN (VPB-111), during action against enemy Japanese forces in the Borneo, Celebes, Malaya, and Indo-China Areas, from 21 April to 23 July 1945. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Petty Officer Muntz contributed materially to the success of his squadron in the infliction of damage on enemy shipping and installations in these area. His gallant devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
