(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) George Edward Dials, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Dials distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Commanding Officer of Company C, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 199th Infantry Brigade (Light) (Separate), in action against the enemy in 1970. Captain Dials’ company was assigned an operational area wherein the 33rd North Vietnamese Army Regiment had been very successfully operating to impede U.S. and Army of the Republic of Vietnam reconnaissance and village stabilization operations and closure of NVA re-supply and maneuver operations. Company C was fully engaged in a number of sizable, multi-week combat operations resulting in the destruction of several NVA bunker complexes and the capture of large volumes of NVA weapons, weapons, and quartermaster-type supplies, including a large cache of food and medical rations under control of the Operating NVA units in their operating area. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Dials, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
