    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Franklin Q. Smith (AFSN: 11015A), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of an F-80 Shooting Star and later an F-86 Sabrejet Fighter-Bomber of the 80th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 8th Fighter-Bomber Group, FIFTH Air Force, in aerial operations in Korea, in 1953. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Smith, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
