The entire crew of Glenn Campbell’s B-26 survived the ditching after their bomber was shot down, and were able to get into a raft. However Campbell had been injured and died while in the raft, and was buried at sea.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Glenn A. Campbell (ASN: 13009895), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as an Aerial Gunner in a B-26 Marauder Bomber of the 2d Bombardment Squadron, 22d Bombardment Group (Medium), FIFTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations, on or about 3 November 1942. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Campbell, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
