(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class Carl Richard Huttula, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Troop C, 7th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Aviation Brigade, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on 16 May 1968. Specialist Fourth Class Huttula was a member of an aerial reconnaissance mission when his recon helicopter came to the aid of another helicopter which sustained enemy fire and crashed. Specialist Fourth Class Huttula went to the aid of the injured and wounded and during the rescue, he was mortally wounded. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
