The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Raymond Floyd Stivison, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 110th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 4 August 1944, near St. Sever de Calvados, France. Company C, while moving against the enemy situated on a hill near St. Sever de Calvado, France, was caught in a cross fire between enemy machine gun and mortar fire. During the ensuing action in which the company suffered numerous casualties, leaving but one officer, an unauthorized individual in the forward element of the line gave an order to withdraw causing a state of disorganization within the lines company. Sergeant Stivison proce3eded along the lines exposed to the enemy and rallied the men to retain their position. Even after being wounded, he continued on with his task within view of the enemy. Greatly encouraged by Sergeant Stivison’s disregard for his own safety, the men of the company were inspired to take the hill on which the enemy was situated and retain the position until relieved. Sergeant Stivison’s action reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service. the highest credit upon himself and upon the military service.
