Raymond Chandler began active duty in the U.S. Army in September 1981. He served in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from 2004 to 2005. He served from 2011 to 2015 as the 14th Sergeant Major of the Army, and retired in 2015 after more than 33 years of service.
