The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Malvin E. Price, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on 30 May 1968. On that date, Sergeant Price, with complete disregard for his own safety, swam into Lake Elmer Thomas to rescue two children who had ventured into water above their heads. His timely heroic act saved the lives of these two children as their father, who was struggling to remain afloat by keeping in contact with his capsized boat, was not able to assist. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, in the dedication of his service to his country, Sergeant Price has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
