The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fourth Class Nick Bramos (ASN: US-51825168), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 5 March 1968 at Baker Beach on the Presidio Military Reservation. Specialist Bramos voluntarily risked his life to aid an individual who was helplessly struggling to overcome the treacherous undercurrent and overpowering waves. The rough water, which was extremely cold, and strong undercurrent made swimming very difficult and, coupled with the support of the victim, the task was desperate. Despite these conditions, and with utter disregard for his own life, Specialist Bramos succeeded in rescuing the drowning man from certain death. First aid was administered immediately by Specialist Bramos, and his heroic conduct and prompt actions were in the highest tradition of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
