Department of the Army, General Orders No. 26 (June 18, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Bobby L. Wilson, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 19 August 1966, in Zirndorf, Germany, when he saved the life of a 14-year-old German boy. The victim caught on fire while cleaning his clothes with solvent, and Sergeant Wilson without regard for his personal safety, grabbed the boy and rolled him on the ground until the flames engulfing his entire body were extinguished. Sergeant Wilson saved the life of the victim but received severe burns on his hands and forearms. Sergeant Wilson’s actions reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
