Department of the Army, General Orders No. 38 (September 18, 1967)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Kenneth A. Bennett (ASN: US-54439318), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy in an attempt to save the lives of others on 11 April 1967 at Pelham Range, Fort McClellan, Alabama. Private Bennett, after suspecting a helicopter had crashed during a training exercise, ran toward the site with a fire extinguisher and immediately began helping to remove the crew from the aircraft and assisting the effort to put the fire out at the risk of his own life while the rear of the craft was engulfed in flames. Private Bennett reflected great credit upon himself, the 69th Chemical Company ( Smoke Generator), and the United States Army.
