The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Brian B. Smith (ASN: ER-13991274), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of the 99th Army Security Agency, at approximately 2400 hours on 3 August 1966 by his participation in a highly effective rescue operation. Three individuals were trapped in an automobile, which had overturned in a nearby lake as a result of an accident. Private Smith assisted in getting these individuals to shore and in administering first aid. Private Smith’s actions contributed directly to saving the lives of the individuals involved in the accident and bring great honor to him and the U.S. Army.
