Department of the Army, General Orders No. 16 (April 4, 1967)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fourth Class Willie D. Lindsey (ASN: US-56389108), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy on 16 August 1966. On the morning of 16 August Specialist Lindsey and a fellow Military Policeman observed a Sierra Vista Policeman attempting to apprehend a man outside the main gate of Fort Huachuca. In the struggle which ensued the policeman then attempted to reach his patrol car to radio for help. As he did so, the assailant shot him in the abdomen. Seeing that the policeman was wounded and in mortal danger, Specialist Lindsey, and his comrade voluntarily and at the risk of their own lives, drew their weapons and ran to the aid of the policeman, where they disarmed and took the gunman into custody and gave aid to the patrolman until he could receive medical attention.
