Headquarters, 1st Aviation Brigade, General Orders No. 1168 (March 13, 1969)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fifth Class Michael Hunt (ASN: RA-12886649), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3d Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry, 1st Aviation Brigade, in the Republic of Vietnam on 30 January 1969. Specialist Hunt distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions at the Di An base camp. As a Medical Corpsman he was on a mission to recover the body of an Air Force pilot. The body was located in a mine field and an ECL team was sent in. One of the members struck a mine, seriously wounding him. Although wounded by the blast himself, Specialist Hunt entered the mine field to administer first aid to the wounded man, who was bleeding profusely. He started out of the mine field with the wounded man, and loaded him aboard a medevac. Not until his arrival back at Di An, did Specialist Hung have his own wounds tended to. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
