The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Eugene M. Wilson (ASN: 33048195), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 February 1945, in Germany. Private First Class Wilson, although he was painfully wounded in trying to rescue a wounded comrade, continued onward, despite almost certain death or injury, to bring the man to the safety of a slit trench. He sheltered the wounded man amidst a deluge of falling shells and then helped him to be evacuated. Private First Class Wilson’s gallant actions saved his comrade’s life. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Wilson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
