The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Joseph A. Posh (ASN: 31248109), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 83d Infantry Division, in action on 4 July 1944, near ****, France. When his company came upon two enemy machine gun emplacements that were covering the forward area with heavy fire, Private Posh, with heroic coolness and inspired determination advanced alone and destroyed both emplacements with hand grenades. His utter disregard for his own personal safety, his daring and initiative, his fighting spirit and prowess in arms were an inspiration of incalculable worth to the members of the command. His action reflects the highest credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.
