The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Nicholas Mucci (ASN: 31382702), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 30th Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized), 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 April 1945, in Germany. When his platoon was ambushed, Private First Class Mucci set up his mortar and continued firing despite intense return fire until he was ordered to cease firing and seek cover. Since the whole position became untenable, he volunteered to take a vehicle and attempt to break through an enemy roadblock established at the rear of the platoon. He continued toward the enemy until his vehicle was knocked off the road by concussion from a panzerfaust. Private First Class Mucci’s outstanding heroism and devotion to duty was a source of inspiration to all who served him, and was keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
