The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert L. Minyard (ASN: 0-1309793), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 November 1944, in Germany. Second Lieutenant Minyard’s platoon was engaged in an attack against an enemy who had sufficient time to dig in extensively and employ much artillery to help them in their defense. The success of the attack depended on pressing forward rapidly and taking the objective before the enemy could bring effective artillery to bear on the attacking force. During the assault, personally led by First Lieutenant Minyard, enemy fire became intense, and the impetus of the attack was in danger of being lost. Without hesitation, and though casualties were occurring in his immediate vicinity from the fierce enemy fire, Second Lieutenant Minyard pressed vigorously forward, calling on his men to follow. Inspired by his display of bravery, despite the personal danger to himself, his men followed him in the attack to capture the objective in rapid time. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by First Lieutenant Minyard reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
