The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Patrick J. McCarron (ASN: 31163885), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in actin against the enemy on 11 July 1944, in the vicinity of ****, Normandy, France. During an attack on a enemy-held hill, Technician Fourth Grade McCarron advanced forward of his own front line in the face of heavy enemy machine gun fire to administer first aid to a wounded comrade. By his prompt and courageous act he was able to administer first aid and evacuate the wounded man, thereby saving his life. Throughout the day he continued to expose himself to heavy enemy fire, and his courage was inspirational to the members of his unit. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
