The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) James R. Maxedon (ASN: 0-1109491), United States Army, for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany during the period 8 November 1944 to 3 March 1945. He led his platoon in such a manner that success was rapidly attained in every mission he was assigned. On numerous occasions he led his platoon in the reduction of obstacles under extremely hazardous conditions. He had constantly demonstrated courageous and aggressive leadership and his devotion to duty was outstanding.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) James R. Maxedon (ASN: 0-1109491), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 25th Armored Engineer Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany during the period 7 October 1944 to 18 April 1945. He has displayed outstanding leadership and courage in action against the enemy in spite of the most adverse and hazardous conditions. He demonstrated exceptional courage and skill in the vicinity of Eiffenbach-le-Hallimer when his task force was held up by a blown culvert and high water. He unhesitatingly moved his engineers to his site, still under small arms and mortar fire and repaired the culvert in defiance of the enemy fire. His gallant action enabled his Task Force to continue and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
