The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Michael King (ASN: 20230970), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 March 1945, in Germany. Fire from an enemy tank and supporting infantrymen forced Technical Sergeant King’s platoon to the ground and caused numerous casualties. Realizing the necessity of advancing he fearlessly rose to his feet amid a hail of cannon and small arms fire and called to his men. Inspired by his courageous example they followed Technical Sergeant King out of the fire swept area. An instant later an enemy mortar concentration fell in the area they had just vacated. Technical Sergeant King’s outstanding heroism prevented further casualties and enabled his platoon to again moved forward compelling the enemy tank to withdraw. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant King, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Michael King (ASN: 20230970), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 28 March 1945, in Germany. Technical Sergeant King and a companion volunteered to provide protection against rocket launcher fire for a tank which was assigned the mission of silencing enemy positions located on the reverse slope of a hill. Technical Sergeant King and his companion courageously advanced behind the tank across open, fire-swept terrain, and as the tank came astride the enemy trenches from the flank ran alongside and raked the trenches with automatic rifle fire. The gallant actions of Technical Sergeant King were largely responsible for the capture of thirty-two of the enemy and the elimination of the strongpoint. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant King, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
