The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Denzil Halsey (ASN: 35078859), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 410th Infantry Regiment, 103d Infantry Division. On 23 April 1945, when Company C was pinned down by heavy enemy machine gun fire in a heavily defended street in Bohringen, Germany, Private Halsey deliberately exposed himself to locate the source of hostile fire. Disregarding the heavy fire which he drew, he moved forward, killing an enemy machine gunner with rifle fire and, then firing a rifle grenade, knocked out the machine gun, wounding the remainder of the crew. His aggressive actions which materially assisted the company in its advanced reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
