Bob Galer graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science degree in commercial engineering, and was commissioned a 2d Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps through the Navy ROTC Program in 1935. He became a World War II Marine Corps DOUBLE ACE, credited with shooting down THIRTEEN enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After earning the Medal of Honor in World War II, he commanded a Marine Air Wing in Korea and on once occasion was shot down deep in enemy territory. Harold McEachern, the Navy helicopter pilot who recovered him was awarded the Navy Cross. Bob Galer retired as a Marine Corps Brigadier General.
