The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Edward A. Albano (ASN: 0-1596246), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 105th Engineer Combat Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 March 1945, in Germany. During an attack a demolished bridge was in the route of the advance. Despite intense enemy fire in the area he and his platoon began repairing the bridge. First Lieutenant Albano, encouraging, exhorting, and repeatedly rallying his men, led them in completing the work and opening the bridge in the short time of two hours. First Lieutenant Albano’s gallant actions despite the hazardous conditions enabled the advance to continue swiftly. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by First Lieutenant Albano reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
