The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Glenn L. Abbott (ASN: 36365417), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 5 October 1944 and 9 October 1944. On 5 October 1944, Private First Class Abbott exposed himself so that when the hostile gun fired, he could locate its position. As soon as he discovered the enemy position, he delivered effective bazooka fire, which neutralized the gun and allowed his comrades to continue their advance. On 9 October 1944, Private First Class Abbott’s company was threatened by an enemy counterattack which included a tank and six other armored vehicles. Again, at great risk to his life, Private First Class Abbott fired his bazooka at the enemy, scored a direct hit on the hostile tank, and was largely instrumental in forcing the enemy to withdraw. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Abbott, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
