The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Timothy T. Tuerck (ASN: 0-557639), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 242d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division. On 18 January 1945, at Hatten, France, when two men of his platoon exploded an antipersonnel mine and had become entangled in heavily mined and booby trapped wire, Lieutenant Tuerck promptly rendered first aid in a dark and hazardous position.
