The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] George A. Jackson, Jr. (ASN: 0-551750), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 27 February 1945, near Wildenguth, France. Leading a combat patrol into enemy lines, Lieutenant Jackson gained and maintained contact with the enemy throughout the night, inflicting heavy losses, destroying hostile installations, and gaining invaluable information of enemy strength, locations and dispositions, personally accounting for more than fifteen of the enemy and three machine guns, he was largely responsible for the achievement of the patrol which wounded or killed over twenty and captured two of the enemy. His courageous leadership and daring initiative reflect distinct credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.
