The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Theodore C. Tennant (ASN: 0-949847), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery C, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 August 1951 in the vicinity of Tumil-li, Korea. On this date as a forward observer, Lieutenant Tennant, with other members of a company, were in their foxholes when the enemy launched a surprise counterattack. The suddenness of the attack caused confusion among the troops. Lieutenant Tennant, with complete disregard for his personal safety, left his covered position and gathered the retreating soldiers and placed them in a position to effectively return the enemy fire. His actions enabled the unit to withdraw to higher ground with a minimum of casualties and loss of ground. The gallantry and devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Tennant on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
