The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Perry A. Sager (ASN: 0-1299477), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 5 September 1950 near Changnyong, Korea. On the night of that date his company was suddenly subjected to a fierce enemy attack. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Captain Sager left the company command post and dashed through the intense hostile fire to personally direct the fire of his men. During the two hour assault he remained in an exposed position and, on one occasion, killed three of six enemy who were charging a machine gun position. Throughout the engagement, he was a source of great inspiration to all of his men and his forceful leadership was a major factor in their ultimate success in repelling the enemy onslaught. The gallantry and skilled leadership displayed by Captain Sager reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
