The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Jessie W. Roberts (ASN: RA-14355443), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date while the company was in the attack to secure the high ground which was well fortified by large enemy forces, a few of the enemy infiltrated through friendly lines. Private Roberts, with complete disregard for his personal safety, exposed himself to the intense enemy fire and advanced towards the infiltrating enemy squad. He succeeded in destroying several of them with his rifle and when his rifle failed to fire, Private Roberts moved forward throwing grenades and destroyed the remainder of the enemy. He continued in the attack protecting the exposed flank of his platoon. As a result the unit was able to advance and secure its objective. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Roberts reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
