The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Eugene L. Revels (ASN: 36382493), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 February 1945, in the vicinity of ******, Germany. Staff Sergeant Revels was the only man from his company to cross the Roer River, the others all having been forced back by intense enemy fire and the strong river currents. Although without a helmet or weapon, and armed only with hand grenades, Staff Sergeant Revels attached himself to a group of men from Company C, 311th Infantry Regiment, who had been successful in the river crossing. By his aggressive action and exemplary conduct, he aided immeasurably in the overpowering of the enemy and the occupation of the town of ******, Germany. His great personal courage and devotion to duty are in accordance with the highest military traditions.
