The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Richard F. Morgan (ASN: 0-1305963), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 29 November 1950, near Majon-ni, Korea, Captain Morgan was in charge of a convoy traveling from Majon-ni to Wonsan, Korea, with Company L acting as security guard. When the convoy came under intense small arms fire from an estimated enemy battalion cleverly camouflaged on high ground on the right side of the road, Captain Morgan immediately halted the convoy and directed all personnel to dismount and take cover. Heedless of the intense fire which was inflicting casualties on our troops, Captain Morgan continually exposed himself and directed his men to positions from which they could place effective fire on the enemy. Calmly moving up and down the road, he succeeded in getting the vehicles and troops moved out of the ambush area with a minimum of casualties. Captain Morgan’s gallantry, courage, and outstanding leadership reflects great credit upon himself and exemplify the high traditions of the military service.
