    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Clayton Louis Moran, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 48th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea, in 1951. First Lieutenant Moran was serving as a forward artillery observer with the 32d Infantry Division near Hansaemni, Korea. He exposed himself to enemy fire in directing the fire of his battalion on an enemy emplacement that had trapped a column of United Nations troops in a ravine. This artillery fire relieved the pressure on the trapped column. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Moran, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
