The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) James R. Lindholm (ASN: 0-1120627), United States Army, for gallanry in action as a member of Company I, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 August 1951 in the vicinity of Worun-ni, Korea. On this date Company I was assigned the mission of occupying newly secured positions. As the unit moved into position, the enemy launched a counterattack, confusing and disorganizing friendly troops, forcing them to withdraw. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Lieutenant Lindholm retrieved a rifle from a fallen soldier and reorganizing a group of men, led them in a ferocious counterattack up the hill. Disregarding his own safety, he faced the hostile forces, throwing grenades and firing pointblank into their midst. His immediate action and inspiring leadership were the deciding factor in repelling the enemy forces and recapturing a vital position that might have been lost. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Lindholm on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
