The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Ramiro Lee (ASN: RA-19348450), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On the night of 24 April and during the early morning hours of 25 April 1953, elements of Company F, 2d Battalion, of which Corporal Lee was a member, were defending their positions on Outpost “Harry”, in the vicinity of Surang-ni, Korea, against a numerically superior hostile attack which was preceded by an intense artillery and mortar barrage. Corporal Lee, located in a dangerously exposed position, remained with his machine gun until he was forced to withdraw to a more tenable position. He was then ordered to take over another machine gun. When this weapon failed to operate, he held off the enemy onslaught by throwing grenades into their charging ranks. During the entire assault, he maintained a calm self-assurance and constantly encouraged and inspired the friendly elements around him. As a result of his actions, numerous casualties were inflicted upon the hostile forces. Corporal Lee’s outstanding gallantry, initiative and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
