The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Donald Joseph Le Couvre (Lecouvere) (ASN: RA-13011259), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 16 November 1950, near Majon-ni, Korea, Company C attacked a small village and after an intense fire fight, it succeeded in driving out the enemy. The company then withdrew from the town so that artillery and mortar fire could be placed on the area. When our friendly troops withdrew the enemy reentered the town. At this time it was discovered that a wounded man had been left in the burning village. Sergeant LeCouvere, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, returned, searched for, and found the wounded man. In spite of being subjected to both friendly and enemy fire, he calmly awaited the arrival of a rescue party. While waiting, a small group of the enemy attacked him but he killed two of them and routed the others. When the rescue party arrived he assisted in carrying the wounded man to a position of safety. Sergeant LeCouvere’s courage and selfless devotion to duty reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
