The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Franklin J. Laskowsky (ASN: RA-19358200), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On the morning of 26 May 1953, volunteer elements of the 3d Battalion had the mission of attacking an enemy-held position in the vicinity of Manyon-Ni, Korea, to capture a prisoner for intelligence purposes. As the friendly raiding party began their attack, Sergeant Laskowsky, squad leader in the assault group, braved enemy small arms and grenade fire to lead his squad over the rugged terrain and into battle. Upon reaching the summit he exposed himself to hostile fire in order to gain a vantage point from where he could hurl his grenades into the enemy bunkers and trenches. At one time, summoning the flame thrower operator he directed him to an enemy-occupied bunker and assisted him in annihilating the troops within. Throughout the fire fight, he kept his group well organized and their maneuvers were successfully coordinated with the other various squads. Sergeant Laskowsky’s outstanding gallantry and untiring devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
