The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Alex H. Kubovich (ASN: RA-16307117), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 16 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. On this date Corporal Kubovich’s company was advancing toward the Naktong River when his squad was suddenly pinned down by an enemy machine gun firing from a concealed position. With all the members of the squad taking cover, Corporal Kubovich left his position and dashed forward toward the enemy machine gun in the face of intense small arms fire. When he was within grenade throwing distance he crawled to the emplacement and threw several grenades into it, destroying the machine gun and its crew. Soon after this heroic charge Corporal Kubovich fell fatally wounded. His inspiring actions was a deciding factor in the success of his company’s mission. The gallantry and unselfish devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Kubovich reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
