The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Stanley C. Kokoszka (ASN: 31061442), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 2d Chemical Mortar Battalion, in action near the Sele River, Italy, on 14 September 1943, and again on 3 December 1943 at Mount Camino, Italy. When the company to which he was attached was pinned down by severe enemy artillery for two days ad nights, and numerous casualties inflicted, Technician Fourth Grade Kokoszka, disregarding his own safety, deliberately exposed himself to enemy fire and moved from place to place rendering first aid to the wounded and directing their evacuation. On 3 December 1943, when a man lay wounded on Mount Camino, he climbed the mountain in the face of heavy artillery fire and although himself wounded by shrapnel continued on, treated the man and returned for medical aid for his own wounds. His outstanding courage and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the Military Service.
