The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Cavalry), [then Captain Warren G. Fee, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Combat Command B, 4th Armored Division, on 29 September 1944. While determining front-line conditions on Hill 318, Major Fee dismounted from his tank and personally rallied and led back to positions from which they had been driven by German fire, several elements of the 8th Tank Battalion and 51st Armored Infantry Battalion. This action of Major Fee resulted in retention of Hill 318 by the 4th Armored Division and provided a jumping off lines from which a counterattack, launched approximately 3 hours later, was entirely successful in complete defeat of the German attacking forces. Major Fee’s disregard for his personal safety and his display of leadership in a critical situation were an inspiration to his fellow officers and men and in the highest tradition of the military service.
