The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Burlon W. Farmer (ASN: RA-46066551), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 30 January 1951, near Yongin, Korea, Private Farmer, assistant gunner of a light machine gun, was attached to Company E in an attack. Upon reaching an intermediate objective known as “Lone Tree Hill”, Company E came under intense accurate automatic weapons fire and suffered many casualties. Completely exposed to enemy fire and observation, Private Farmer, with utter disregard for his personal safety, unhesitatingly placed into action his machine gun and commenced to returning the fire. Remaining in this exposed position despite the danger involved, he successfully covered the reorganization of Company E. When the company commenced the attack once more, Private Farmer supported its advance throughout the remainder of the day although heavy enemy fire was directed at him in an effort to knock out his gun. The heroism and devotion to duty displayed on this occasion by Private Farmer reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
